During my 2nd year as a teacher, a colleague taught me the importance of sending postcards to kids. When a child gets something addressed to them, the special note makes all the difference. The parent of one of my students sent me this picture of her son checking out a postcard I’d sent. Over the years, many kids have told me how much they appreciate getting paper mail and how they keep these special cards and look back on them often.
As you make memories with your children this summer, grab a postcard at the places you visit and write a quick note about your observations of your child. Tell how proud you are of the work they put into learning something new or making the world a special place because of their actions. Whether you send the postcard or just put it in a spot where they can read it someday, you are capturing the memories of the day in a special way.
