My Year of Living Abundantly-Day 17

I’m on the couch watching the lights.  I’m so relaxed.  As I reflect on the first 17 days of my year of living abundantly, I’m feeling exhausted!

Before I retired I am certain that I did better with self control.  For instance, I exercised amazing self control once during our fire drill. A kiddo at the end of the line grabbed the tetherball pole and started twirling around it in a dancing Cirque de Sol like way. It was on the tip of my tongue to say, “Stop pole dancing!”

Luckily, I gave him the “get in line” look like only educators can do and he got back in line. I am sure I would have regretted it immediately as he would have taken my command and run with it because he is wildly creative AND a bit worldly. While I love wildly creative children, adding worldly to the mix can make life miserable. I was able to not say the first thing that popped into my head.  That’s self control!

When I woke up this morning, I saw cherry pie in the kitchen and I ate it.  Eating whatever looks good is NOT practicing self control.   I need to get through the holidays without exploding.  Today, I learned new computer skills by watching Youtube videos.

From Audible, Overdrive and the wisdom of a friend, I learned new strategies that led me  to sharing my some big  feelings.

My Year of Living Abundantly started with a visit to a new primary care doctor. After a conversation with her,  I realized that  I’M the one who needs to make the decision to eat well and move more AND I’m the one who’ll live with the choices I make. Though BMI and Blood Pressure may reflect my health and well being, there are other success indicators I’ve decided to track.  I’m tracking a few things here so I’ll be able to review and share the highlights when I see my doctor again in December 2020. I’d love to honestly report positive things

Success Indicator Updates:

Body Mass Index: Today my BMI was up slightly.

Blood Pressure: Today my BP was about the same.

Healthy Fuel: We had roast green beans and roast pork with figgy jam.  It was fabulous!

Not so Healthy Fuel:  I had a mocha.  Yum.

Quiet Time:I had a little bit of quiet time this morning.

Nature Parks Explored:  I didn’t leave the house on this very rainy day.

Spinach Salads: No salad today.

Beverage High in Antioxidants:  I enjoyed a mocha at Cranky B4 Coffee today.  The barista knew so much about  coffee and how tastes compliment each other.  It was a great experience.

Walking with My Grand Dog: I had no dog time today.

Sand Castles with Cute Kids: I had no kid time today.  Because it was the day before winter break in the local elementary schools, I wasn’t sad about missing their enthusiasm.

Gratitude:

I am thankful for my couch and cuddle time after a busy week.
